Ballads from a Distant Star–IN NEW YORK CITY!

OMYGOSH OMYGOSH OMYGOSH!

My friend introduced me to some folks at Arts On Site, and I proposed a ONE-NIGHT-ONLY performance of BALLADS FROM A DISTANT STAR–and I got it!

PLEASE, book your calendars for MARCH 30TH! There will be two performances: 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM!

BALLADS FROM A DISTANT STAR:

BALLADS FROM A DISTANT STAR: Imagine the working families of a 19th Century mining town–sold by the company bosses to bodysnatching aliens, and taken in their silver ship to mine on a distant planet! Imagine how their songs, stories and legends mutate and change over these vast distances! The Pied Piper, the two sisters Shahrazad and Dunyazad (and the murderous king) of 1001 Nights, sundered lovers from folk songs everywhere, Thomas the Rhymer and the Faerie Queen, Two Strange Babes–even the famous and grisly tale of James Wilson, murdered by Burke and Hare! All re-told and re-envisioned as SFF songs, poems, scenes, and monologues–explored by an ethnomusicologist astronaut, looking for answers in the distant stars!

IT’S GOING TO BE FUN! It’s going to be 50 minutes of BIZARRITUDE AND GLORY! PUT IT ON YOUR CALENDARS! HUZZAH!

Featuring:

Carla Kissane
Tim Rodriguez
Carlos Hernandez
Amanda Baker

and yours truly, C. S. E. Cooney

This is Nick, off of twitter. Let’s see if the tech gods shall smile and let me post this 😉
See, this right here is why I love! the powers of the Internet. I, always being fashionably late to all the best parties, discovered your work with Saint Death’s Daughter. Which left me with no idea of the joys of Banjo Apocalypse Crinoline Troubadour Girls until tonight (which still baffles me b/c I somehow missed it even though I followed Amal, and am chuckling over just how I could’ve been s out of the loop. I like to think it was fate’s bountiful gift, so I could binge the youTube channel in one great glorious gulp of effervescent joy.)
Anyway, I can’t tell you how much I love!!!!! this entire concept, and how utterly thrilled I am it’s getting to air to a wider audience. Forgive me for being dreadfully behind-the-times and asking two possibly silly questions. Any chance of tickets for streaming performances–I know some venues have kept that capibility post-pandemic and some haven’t, but figured no harm in asking. And the concept album plans floating around in 2019–because I maybe spent too much time looking for mentions of this project in the blog archives ;)–did I miss its release, or did it get pushed back a bit because of the pandemic/book release/the world being the world? (Selfishly, I’m hoping for the latter because GOD I want to throw money at you to make more art of this. Growing up with a proud lineage of coal miners, I can’t tell you how viscerally this entire plot caught my imagination and makes me so, so happy. Streaming or no stream, I’m over the moon you get to bring it to life onstage!!!!)

Nick!!! Hi!!! Yes, I was all FORWARD
MOMENTUM in 2019, and then 2020 happened. 😉 And then, yes, my book was also accepted by the publisher in 2020, and it was a lot of promo. As well, our game Negocios Infernales was accepted, and I knew there would be a Kickstarter, only that kept being put off, and I didn’t want to do two major fundraisers in the same year (it seemed like it would be asking a lot). I’m not sure we’ll be able to stream, but I’m going to look into, at the very least, making an audio recording, and maybe a video! But I dearly look forward to your support!

I don’t know if your archival deep dive realized, but I do have a couple (totally grassroots, first time doing anything like it) recordings on Bandcamp under Brimstone Rhine.
